3D SOUNDS OF THE JUMPING SPIDER
The Slow Mo Guys did this first
By means of red colored cornstarch combined with the sound played over a speaker cone, 3 dimensional forms can be created. In my case I chose the sound of the jumping spider. Initially as part of a year long project in the first Academy year in 2015 with the theme Flora & Fauna.
This ongoing work was preceded by the making of a jumping spider with natural materials and the making of the dance of the jumping spider.
I got really excited when I found out that the created sound-forms where specific to the type of sound generated.
Each still picture/ sculpture is a fragment of the sound, so together with many stills / sculptures the sound may fill the space like sound also can and be the sound of the jumping spider?
Because the form is specific to each different sound, new projects spring to mind like the sound of planets or maybe even whales?
For now I am trying to arrange for a 1000 frames per second camera movie for myself, so the quality of my stills match those of the Slow Mo Guys.
